DUCIE BRIDGE - MANCHESTER

City Centre: A single 6.8m span bridge located behind Piccadilly Station and over the Ashton Canal. It is 15.9m wide of which 11 .2m are carriageway. Strengthening was carried out while still allowing the two way flow of traffic. The anchor positioning was designed to avoid extensive internal services - gas, water and electricity which are located under the pavement areas. ARCHTEC was chosen because the city centre bridge could not be closed to traffic and even a reduced traffic flow would have caused high indirect costs.
